Lady Mustangs Fall In Close Game With Eutectics

Conway, Ark. – Playing in their penultimate home game of the season, Central Baptist College women's basketball hosted the Eutectics of the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis tonight in an American Midwest Conference contest at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse. CBC (5-16, 4-11 AMC led after the first and third quarters, but couldn't contain UHSP (14-11, 9-6 AMC) in the final stanza, falling 69-62.
Olivia Lambrigtsen guided CBC with 21 points while Rhys Anderson chipped in with 14. CBC was able to keep pace with UHSP thanks to second chance points and points in the paint, with 18 and 20 respectively, compared to just three and eight in those categories for the Eutectics.
GAME FLOW
Aliya Grotjohn opened the scoring, hitting a three 54 seconds into the game to give CBC an early lead. UHSP would tie on the ensuing possession, but another Grotjohn three and a jumper from Taryanna McNary made it 8-3 early on. CBC would hold three different eight-point cushions in the quarter, ending it with a 21-15 lead. CBC held onto the lead for the first 5:59 of the second quarter until UHSP put them down 26-25 with 4:01 left until halftime. The Lady Mustangs would retake the lead less than a minute later before UHSP got back-to-back threes to end the half on a 6-0 run and put CBC down 32-27 at halftime.
The Lady Mustangs chipped away at the deficit in the third quarter, taking it down to two before a three by Lydia York made it 43-42 CBC with 2:05 left. Another UHSP three put them back in front but Lambrigtsen hit a layup with 1:32 left to tie the game at 45. Following another UHSP basket and one, the Lady Mustangs responded, hitting layups on back-to-back possessions to lead 49-48 after three. The Lady Mustangs kept the lead early in the fourth, but a 10-0 run by UHSP followed and CBC trailed 60-52 with just over seven minutes to play. The Lady Mustangs would get the deficit to four on several occasions, but couldn't ever recover the lead.
