Lady Mustangs Fall To Bobcats In Final Non-Conference Game
Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director
Conway, Ark. – Stepping out of American Midwest Conference play for the final time this season, Central Baptist College women's basketball hosted the Bobcats of College of the Ozarks tonight at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse in a meeting of former Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference rivals. CBC (3-14) had an early lead, but couldn't contain hot shooting from C of O (19-6) and dropped the contest 88-72.
Rhys Anderson led the way scoring for the Mustangs with a career-high 17 points, including a career-high tying four made threes, while Olivia Lambrigtsen and Aliya Grotjohn both joined her in double figures with 10 apiece. CBC made a season-high 12 threes in the contest, but were outshot 52 percent to 42 percent from the field and outrebounded 45-27.
GAME FLOW
Anderson made the first basket of the game 56 seconds in to give CBC the lead before C of O tied the game at the free throw line. A pair of free throws by Caroline Citty made it 4-2 and the Bobcats tied the score on the next possession. A three by Anderson with 7:43 left gave CBC a 7-4 lead until C of O went on an 11-0 run to take a 15-7 lead with 4:15 left in the quarter. The Lady Mustangs fought back, however, going on an 11-3 run of their own to tie the score at 18 with 1:21 left in the first. A three by C of O put the deficit back to three and the first quarter ended with CBC down 23-18. A jumper from Tamara Christmas cut the deficit to 23-20 early in the second before C of O went on a 20-2 run to lead 43-22 with 4:02 left in the quarter and CBC never got the deficit under 13 again.
