#MustangsWin! CBC Comes From Behind To Beat Stephens On Senior Night!

Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

Conway, Ark. – Opening their final homestand of the season, Central Baptist College women's basketball hosted the Stars of Stephens College in an American Midwest Conference game. CBC (10-14, 5-14 AMC) came back from a five point halftime deficit to defeat Stephens (16-9, 11-8 AMC) 55-54.

Caroline Citty and Olivia Lambrigtsen both finished in double figures with 16 and 11 points, respectively, while Lambrigtsen led the way in rebounds with nine. CBC outrebounded Stephens 40-32, hit seven more free throws and were +8 on points in the paint.

GAME FLOW

CBC got out to a quick 4-0 lead on back-to-back layups from Citty before Stephens went on a 5-0 run to lead 5-4. A three from Citty made it 7-5 at the 6:35 mark and, following a pair of Stars free throws, CBC would go on a 4-0 run courtesy of Rhys Anderson and Lambrigtsen to take an 11-7 lead with 3:43 left in the first. Stephens would cut the lead to one with a three and Diana Rivera, who was honored before the game as the lone senior, made a jumper with 1:55 left to make it 13-10 and CBC would take a 13-12 lead into the second quarter.

In the second quarter, Stephens opened on a 4-0 run and CBC went 2:01 without a field goal before a jump shot from Jordan Hammons made it 16-15. Following a couple more instances of getting the deficit back down to one, Kristan Hargrove made a layup with 2:39 left in the quarter to give CBC a 21-20 lead. Unfortunately, that was the final field goal of the half for the Lady Mustangs and they went to the locker room down 26-21.

The deficit reached six early in the second half, but the Lady Mustangs never went away, retaking the lead with 5:24 left in the quarter and stretching the lead to 34-31 with 4:50 left. The run would continue and the lead reached its largest of the night, 38-31, with 3:15 left, but the Stars came back and tied the score at 41 headed to the final quarter.

In the fourth, a jumper from Rivera made it 43-41 with 9:34 left and a free throw from Lambrigtsen made it 44-41. Stephens would tie the score again at 44 before taking the lead back at 46-44 with 6:51 to play. An Emma Bates three with 5:14 left returned the lead to CBC and then the teams traded baskets and CBC led 49-48 with 4:13 to go. The Lady Mustangs held on from there, ballooning their lead to five, 53-48, before a three with six seconds left made it 53-51. Following an offensive foul, Bates went down and made two clutch free throws to put CBC ahead by four making Stephens' three at the buzzer not matter.
