#MustangsWin! CBC Overcomes Halftime Deficit For Season Sweep of HLGU!

Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

Conway, Ark. – Looking to bounce back after a tough road trip, Central Baptist College women's basketball hosted the Trojans of Hannibal-LaGrange tonight at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse, looking for a season sweep in American Midwest Conference play. CBC (9-11, 4-11 AMC) trailed 34-32 at halftime but got hot in the third quarter and cruised to a 77-61 win over HLGU (4-17, 2-12 AMC).

Caroline Citty led the way for CBC with her first career double-double, tying a career-high with 21 points and grabbing a career-high 13 rebounds. She was joined in double figures scoring by Rhys Anderson, who had 14, Diana Rivera, who chipped in with 13 and Emma Bates added 11 points to the mix. CBC crushed HLGU on the glass 45-30 and forced 17 turnovers, which led to 27 points, while also outscoring HLGU in second chance opportunities 16-2 and points in the paint 34-14.

GAME FLOW

Anderson opened the scoring for CBC with a three pointer five seconds into the game. The teams would go back-and-forth until the 5:51 mark when Diana Rivera started CBC on an 8-2 run over 2:08 to help the Lady Mustangs out to a 15-9 lead. CBC would hold HLGU to one field goal the rest of the quarter and led 20-11 after one. The second quarter was much different. Following a Tamara Christmas layup that stretched the lead to 22-11, HLGU went on a tear, outscoring the Lady Mustangs the rest of the quarter 23-10 to give CBC a 34-32 deficit at the half.

A layup by Citty 15 seconds into the third quarter tied the score at 34 and a three-pointer by Anderson with 9:20 left in the quarter gave CBC a 37-34 lead. The Lady Mustangs couldn't get away though, and HLGU retook the lead at 40-39 with 6:55 left in the third. With 6:37 left in the quarter, Manuela Cruz gave CBC the lead back with a layup to make it 41-40 and Bates sealed the comeback with a three to make it 44-40 and CBC would score 27 points in the quarter and then never get challenged in the fourth to secure the win.
