Conway, Ark. – Returning to A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse for the first time in 2023, Central Baptist College women's basketball hosted the Eagles of Williams Baptist University this afternoon in an American Midwest Conference rivalry contest. CBC (7-6, 2-6 AMC) led in the first quarter, but trailed at halftime and fell to WBU (8-7, 4-3 AMC) 78-62.
Diana Rivera led the way for CBC with a career-high 15 points and joined in double figures by Maele Van Houtert, who posted a career-high 13 and Caroline Citty added 11. The story of the game was WBU guard Kaylee Clark, who finished with 40 points and posted a WBU-record 11 threes.
For the first 7:02 of the contest, neither team had a lead larger than three at any point and with 2:58 left in the first quarter, a jumper from Rivera made it 17-16 CBC, the final time they would lead in the game. WBU closed the quarter on a 7-0 run and led 23-17 after one, 48-30 at halftime, 62-47 after three and 78-62 at the end of the game. The bright spot for CBC was a +8 rebounding margin and forcing 21 turnovers while committing only 17.
The Lady Mustangs head back to the road for their next game on Thursday, when they take on AMC foe Stephens at Silverthorne Arena in Columbia, Mo. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
