Conway, Ark. – Opening the home portion of the 2022-23 schedule tonight, Central Baptist College women's basketball hosted the Warriors of Bacone College at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse. CBC (2-0) shot 55 percent from the field in the second half to hand Bacone (0-4) a defeat 74-50.
Rhys Anderson and Caroline Citty were the co-leading scorers, with both scoring 16 points, including 12 in the third quarter from Anderson (on four three-pointers) and 11 from Citty in the fourth. Citty was also the co-leading rebounder with Tamara Christmas, as both grabbed seven boards apiece. Turnovers were the key to the contest, as the Lady Mustangs were +13, forcing 25 turnovers while only committing 12 of their own.
Bacone led 10-6 late in the first quarter, but CBC closed on a 7-0 run over the final 2:03 to lead 13-10 after one, a lead they would never relinquish. CBC's first double-digit lead of the game came with 1:10 left in the second quarter after a three from Emma Bates made it 28-18. The Mustangs would lead 28-20 at halftime.
Anderson put the game away in the third quarter, making four threes on the first five possessions of the third to give CBC a 40-31 lead with 5:56 left in the quarter. Bacone wouldn't get closer than six the rest of the game as the Lady Mustangs took a 52-40 lead into the fourth quarter and outscored Bacone 22-10 in the final quarter to seal the win.
Next up for CBC is a trip to Ruston, La., on Monday for an exhibition contest against NCAA Division I Louisiana Tech. Tipoff for that contest is slated for 5:30 p.m. and the next regular season contest for the Lady Mustangs is their American Midwest Conference opener against University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis on Oct. 17 in St. Louis.
