Seck Sets Records In Overtime Thriller With Missouri Baptist

Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

Conway, Ark. – Aminata Seck set or tied two rebounding records today as the Central Baptist College women's basketball team hosted the Missouri Baptist Spartans in an American Midwest Conference contest this afternoon in A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse. CBC (12-13, 4-11 AMC) trailed by 16 after one quarter but forced overtime, ultimately falling 72-67 to MBU (15-11, 12-4 AMC).

Seck tied the single non-exhibition game rebounding record, grabbing 18 on the day with seven of those rebounds on the offensive glass, giving her 98 on the season and new single-season record.  She also finished with 12 points for her 16th double-double of the season while Alexis Augustus led the Lady Mustangs with 16 points. The difference in the game ended up being free throws, with the Spartans going 26-34 at the line while CBC went 17-28.

GAME FLOW

The game opened close, and CBC was within 8-6 inside 3:20 before closed the first quarter on an 18-4 run to lead 26-10 after one. CBC began to chip away in the second quarter, however, and they trailed 38-27 at the break. CBC's defense came up big in quarter number three, holding MBU to just nine points, trailing just 47-43 entering the fourth. The Spartans struck quickly in the fourth quarter, making CBC's deficit six in the first 20 seconds, but the Lady Mustangs would not go down quietly. Reagan's Roetzel's three with 7:05 left made it 53-48 and CBC was able to tie the game at 57 on a layup by Railyn Shelvin with 3:18 to go. CBC took their first lead of the game with 1:35 left when a free throw by Augustus made it 59-58. MBU responded immediately, sinking a three on their next possession to lead 61-59 with 1:12 to go. Following a turnover and a missed layup, Caroline Citty drove into the paint and tied the game at 61 with 22 seconds left. CBC had a chance to win the game in regulation after Augustus blocked a three on the defensive end, but Roetzel missed at the buzzer and the game went into overtime. In the ovetime, MBU scored on each of their first two possessions and CBC never recovered, getting to within three only once the rest of the game.
