Women's Basketball Announces 2021-22 Recruiting Class
Conway, Ark. – Coming off a 10-7 season and a trip to the American Midwest Conference semifinals, Central Baptist College women's basketball coach Lyle Middleton has announced his recruiting class for the 2021-22 season. The class includes five players, three of whom are international players.
"I like this year's recruiting class," said Middleton. "All five newcomers will contribute significant minutes."
The five player class is Cree McLemore, Aminata Seck, Manuela Cruz, Diana Rivera and Railyn Shelvin.
McLemore comes to CBC off a year where she was a second-team all-district selection at Longview High School in Texas. "At 5'1", Cree has a high energy level, quick foot speed and is a tough defender," added Middleton.
Seck, a native of Senegal, joins the Mustangs from Northwest Kansas Technical College, where she averaged over five rebounds a game last season while shooting 56 percent from the field. "Nada is 6'4" transfer that is very athletic with range and a strong rebounder with shot blocking ability," said Middleton.
Cruz comes to CBC from Mayflower. A native of Colombia, she has played in international youth competitions for the Colombian National Team. "Manuela is a 5'8" crafty guard that can handle the ball, shoot midrange and read the floor very well," added Middleton.
Rivera, a native of Puerto Rico, joins the Mustangs from Hillsborough Community College in Florida. At HCC, she was a two-time defensive player of the year and earned second-team all-conference honors last season after averaging nearly 12 points, four rebounds and a little over two assists per game. "Diana is 5'9" and is one of best defenders I've ever coached. She is strong and versatile and will matchup well with anyone in our conference," added Middleton.
Shelvin joins the Mustangs after having previously played at Southern University in New Orleans. The Hilaryville, La., native, averaged 9.6 points and 5.4 rebounds per game in her one season at SUNO, and prior to that, she played in the NJCAA Region 23 All-Star game when she was attending Mississippi Delta Community College. "Railyn is a 6'0" physical post with a good midrange shot who plays well with her back to the basket," added Middleton.
