#MustangsWin! CBC Sweeps Stephens To Setup Showdown With Columbia

            Conway, Ark. – Returning home for the first time in a month, Central Baptist College softball hosted an American Midwest Conference doubleheader this afternoon at City of Colleges Park against the Stars of Stephens College. CBC (15-13, 5-1 AMC) unleashed an offensive onslaught, scoring 23 runs on 24 hits to win 10-2 and 12-3 over SC (7-15, 2-6 AMC).

            Hannah Work and Averie Ayers started in the doubleheader and both earned wins. CBC pounded the softball, earning eight extra base hits on the afternoon.

GAME ONE – CBC 10, STEPHENS 2 (FIVE INNINGS)

            CBC jumped on top in the first inning, scoring an unearned run on a double by Kirstie Blackwood. Stephens would take a 2-1 lead in the second before the Mustangs tied the game on a sacrifice fly from Caroline Byers. The Mustangs would blow the game open in the third, scoring six times in the inning to lead 8-2 after three. Blackwood started the inning with an RBI double and it was followed by a bases loaded walk to Lauren Anderson. Ayers would single in a run to make it 5-2 before Katie Smith cleared the bases for the six-run cushion. An RBI triple from Tobi Finley in the fourth made it 9-2 and Ysabella Esquivel ended the game in the fifth with another RBI single. Work went 4.1 innings and allowed five hits and two runs with two walks and a strikeout. Maggi Huddleston threw the final two-thirds of an inning and allowed a hit.

GAME TWO – CBC 12, STEPHENS 3 (FIVE INNINGS)

            The Mustangs jumped on the Stars early in game two, tallying 10 runs in the first inning to put the game away early. Blackwood cleared the bases with a double to make it 3-0 and Ayers would follow with a two-run single of her own to make 5-0. Back-to-back errors would make it 7-0 before Blackwood's second multi-run hit of the inning made it 9-0. Savannah Sanford capped the inning with an RBI double to make it 10-0. Stephens would make it 10-1 with a home run in the second before two more runs in the third would make it 12-1. Madi Spears doubled to make it 11-1 before Blackwood would drive in her sixth run of the game with a single to bring it to 12-1 after three. Stephens tried to extend the game beyond the fifth, but they only scored two and the game ended. Ayers would earn the win, throwing 3.1 innings and allowing three hits and one run with two walks and three Ks. Alex Jeter finished the contest, allowing four hits and two unearned runs with a strikeout in 1.2 innings.
