Gulf Shores, Ala. – Playing for the first time since the 19th of February, Central Baptist College softball returned to the field today for day one of the Gulf Coast Invitational. CBC (6-8) dropped both contests on the day, falling to William Carey (14-2) 4-1 in the first game and 14-7 to Brenau (5-5) in the second.

Lauren Anderson was the star for the Mustangs on the afternoon, going 4-7 with three extra base hits. She homered for the lone run against William Carey and then doubled twice and drove in two against Brenau. Hannah Work handled the Crusaders in game one and was the unfortunate loser, scattering 10 over a complete game, allowing four runs and walking two while striking out one. Ysabella Esquivel started game two and did not factor in the decision, allowing three hits and four runs (three earned) in 1.1 innings. Averie Ayers earned the loss, allowing eight runs (five earned) on eight hits with two strikeouts. Emily Cole finished the game, allowing four hits and two earned with a walk over the final 2.2 innings.

GAME ONE – WILLIAM CAREY 4, CBC 1

The Crusaders would add two in the fourth and one in the fifth to lead 4-0 before Anderson's solo shot in the seventh made it the final score.

GAME TWO – BRENAU 14, CBC 7

Sloppy defense by both teams contributed to many of the runs in game two. The teams would combine for 11 errors while their were 26 hits and 21 runs combined as well. BC, who scored in every inning except the sixth, led 1-0 after one half of an inning. CBC would take the lead in the bottom of the first courtesy of an RBI single by Madi Spears, a double by Anderson and a single by Heather Hoffman to lead 3-1 after one. BC would retake the lead with three runs in the second before a two-run single by Kirstie Blackwood in the bottom half helped CBC retake a 5-4 lead after two. From there, Brenau took off, scoring two in the third, three in the fourth, two in the fifth and two in the seventh to lead 14-5. A single by Anderson and a double by Tobi Finley provided the sixth and seventh runs of the contest.
