Kansas City, Mo. – Looking to continue their run at the NAIA Men's Basketball Championship this afternoon, Central Baptist College, the #14 seed in the Cramer Quadrant, took on the #1 seed and #5 team in the nation, the Lions of Freed-Hardeman, in an AMC rivalry renewed on the national stage. CBC (28-7) raced out early, but couldn't stop a hot shooting FHU (30-4) falling 85-74 to end their season.
Deshawn Corprew, in his final game in a Mustang uniform, had 12 points, joined in double figures by Sage Borbon with 11 and Tonje Durham, who also played his final game in a Mustang uniform, had 11 as well. Two areas dominated this game, which were FHU gaining 12 points from three (11 makes to seven) and making seven more free throws in 11 more attempts.
GAME FLOW
The Mustangs started quickly, scoring the first five points of the game, and led 10-3 with just over four minutes played. FHU went on an 8-0 to take the lead at 11-10 before a three by Jonas Carlisle put CBC back in front 13-11. The teams would trade baskets on the next five possessions until FHU put the Mustangs behind 19-17 with 10:27 to play. The deficit eventually reached 11 and CBC would not get closer than six the rest of the half, taking a 46-30 deficit into halftime, their largest deficit at the half this season.
CBC couldn't capitalize on opportunities in the second half, falling behind by 26 at one point before getting the deficit to 11 by the end of the game.
