#MustangsWin! Win Streak Moves To 12 As CBC Sweeps Williams Baptist!
Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director
Conway, Ark. – Looking to extend their winning streak to 12 and stay undefeated in American Midwest Conference play, Central Baptist College men's basketball faced a tough road test tonight against the Eagles of Williams Baptist University inside the Southerland-Mabee Center. CBC (21-4, 11-0 AMC) did exactly what they needed to do, never allowing WBU (12-10, 4-7 AMC) to lead in a 90-81 win for the Mustangs.
Deshawn Corprew led the way with 24 points, including 18 in the first half. Kyle Harding had 20 off the bench, Jonas Carlisle added 15 and Sage Borbon chipped in with 10. CBC posted one of their best shooting performances of the season, going 31-60 from the floor (51.6 percent), 9-19 from three (47.4) and 19-23 at the free throw line (82.6) to beat WBU by at least nine percentage points in each category.
GAME FLOW
Corprew opened the scoring with a layup 40 seconds in before WBU tied the score at 2-2. SaVaughn Smith would hit a three to make it 5-2 at the 18:09 mark before the Eagles responded with another three to tie the score again. A three by Corprew put CBC up 8-5 with 17:14 left in the half and the Mustangs never trailed again, leading 49-34 at the half before fighting off a charge from WBU that saw the Eagles cut the lead to five on four separate occasions, with CBC able to respond every time.
UP NEXT
CBC can make some history when UHSP comes to A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse for Senior Night on Thursday night. Festivities will be prior to the 7:30 tip and CBC could finish the regular season undefeated at home for the first time and clinch at least a share of the AMC regular season championship.
