#MUSTANGSWWWWWWWWWIN! MUSTANGS SURVIVE OVERTIME WITH COLUMBIA!
Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director
Conway, Ark. – Looking to continue their historic run in American Midwest Conference play, Central Baptist College men's basketball hosted the Cougars of Columbia College tonight inside a packed and loud A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse. CBC (18-4, 8-0 AMC) led by 15 at half and had to come back with clutch free throws in overtime to beat CC (16-5, 6-2 AMC) 77-76.
Deshawn Corprew led five Mustangs in double figures scoring as he was joined by Sage Borbon, Devin Foster, Jonas Carlisle and Kyle Harding in that department. Three-point shooting was the key as the Mustangs were able to nail 12 threes in the contest, their third highest total this season.
GAME FLOW
The teams traded baskets on their first possessions before a three from Borbon gave CBC a 5-4 lead 1:41 into the game. CBC would lead the rest of the half from there, racing out to a 34-16 lead before taking a 42-27 lead into the halftime break. CBC held the lead for most of the second half before Columbia tied the score at 64 with 2:40 left and put CBC in a 67-66 deficit following a jumper from Corprew and a three from the Cougars. A layup with 1:10 left put Columbia up 69-66 and Jonas Carlisle split free throws with 16 seconds left to cut the deficit to two. Following a Columbia missed free throw and a foul, Corprew stepped to the line and nailed a pair to tie the score at 69 and send the game into overtime. In the extra period, Kyle Harding nailed two free throws to give CBC the lead before CC cut the lead to one and Borbon stretched to back to three with a layup. Columbia responded with a layup of their own and retook the lead at the free throw line, 74-73, with 55 seconds to play. Another layup from Borbon with 44 seconds left put CBC back up 75-74 and a CC jumper put the deficit back to one with 24 seconds left. Following a missed layup and an offensive rebound, Corprew stepped to the foul line with 3.8 seconds left and buried a pair of free throws to lead 77-76 and Columbia missed a desperation heave at the buzzer to push the Mustangs' winning streak to nine in a row!
