#MustangsWin! Second Half Power Pushes CBC Past HLGU!

Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

Conway, Ark. – Coming off an emotional rivalry win on Tuesday night, Central Baptist College men's basketball was back inside the confines of A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse tonight for an American Midwest Conference clash with Hannibal-LaGrange. CBC (12-4, 3-0 AMC) led by one at halftime and used a strong second half to power past HLGU (4-8, 0-3 AMC) 76-55.

Sage Borbon and Devin Foster both finished in double figures scoring and Christian White paced the Mustangs on the glass. CBC got to the free throw line 20 more times than HLGU did and forced 17 turnovers.

GAME FLOW

HLGU led for most of the first half, by as many as six on two separate occasions, before CBC took a 26-25 lead into halftime thanks to a pair of Hykeem Hancock free throws with three seconds left before the break. The second half would be a much different story.

Tomas Mikyska opened the second half with a jumper to push the lead to three before HLGU responded right away to make it 28-27. A three by Borbon made it 31-27 and the Trojans cut it to two on the next possession, but that's as close as they would get the rest of the game as a made dunk by SaVaughn Smith with 17:07 left sparked a 14-1 run over the next 4:15 to make it 45-30 and put the game out of reach.

MUSTANG NOTES

  • CBC moved to 16-1 all-time against HLGU
  • Borbon led the way with 19 points and Foster added 10
  • Foster was one of six Mustangs to record a blocked shot as the Mustangs finished with 11 stuffs, tied for the second most in a single game in program history
  • CBC is now 10-2 when leading at the half this season
  • CBC shot 29 free throws compared to just nine for HLGU and outscored the Trojans 21-4 at the line
  • CBC was plus 13 on the glass (42-29) and was able to capitalize on second chance points scoring 16 of those to go with 13 offensive boards
