#MustangsWin! CBC Knocks Off Baptist Bible To Open Baptist Bible Classic

Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

Springfield, Mo. – Playing in a road tournament for the second straight weekend, Central Baptist College men's basketball was on the floor at W.E. Dowell Fieldhouse tonight for the first game of the Baptist Bible Classic against the hosts, the Patriots of Baptist Bible College. CBC (4-2) trailed three times in the game but fought back each time, beating BBC (2-4) 76-70.

Deshawn Corprew led the way in both scoring and rebounding while Sage Borbon led the way in assists. The Mustangs dominated on the glass 48-35 and outscored the Patriots 28-7 off the bench.

GAME FLOW

Wade Williams opened the scoring 21 seconds into the game, but BBC would tie it on the next possession. A BBC three gave them a 5-2 lead with 1:56 gone by and BBC stretched the deficit to six over the next 2:53. CBC began to chip away, getting to 12-10 before another BBC run stretched the lead to eight. The Mustangs continued to fight, retaking the lead on a three by Borbon with 6:27 left in the half to make it 26-24, pushing a run that was 15-5 over a stretch of three-plus minutes to push the Mustang lead to 34-24 with 4:51 left in the half. The Mustangs would not trail again in the half, taking a 39-25 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, the Mustangs kept the lead for the first 7:38 until a jumper by BBC tied the score at 50 with 12:22 left. That began a 7-0 run for the Patriots that gave CBC a 57-50 deficit with 8:55 left. A jumper from SaVaughn Smith with 8:55 remaining made it 57-52 followed by a Christian White jumper and an old fashioned three-point play by Smith tied the score at 57 with 7:35 left. BBC wouldn't go away, however, and scored on their next to possessions to put CBC down 61-57. Jumpers from White and Borbon tied the score at 61 with 5:37 left and another White jumper gave CBC a 63-61 lead with 5:33 left. BBC would tie the score at the free throw line at the 5:05 mark and retake the lead with 4:32 left at 65-63. The only points over the next minute and a half were a Corprew free throw and it was 65-64 until a pair of free throws by Jonas Carlisle gave CBC the lead for good at 66-65 with 3:02 left. From there, BBC only scored one field goal, but CBC had already iced the game.
