Conway, Ark. – Opening their final home American Midwest Conference series of the year at Bear Stadium at the University of Central Arkansas, Central Baptist College baseball hosted the Trojans of Hannibal-LaGrange University this afternoon. CBC (23-20, 19-11 AMC) swept the doubleheader, winning game one 16-2 before shutting out HLGU (7-25, 6-24 AMC) 4-0 in game two.
GAME ONE – CBC 16, HLGU 2
Brayden Mayencourt got the scoring started in the first inning as he launched a three-run home run to right field after George Astacio singled to lead off the game and Ryan Dauphinee was hit by a pitch. It was Mayencourt's fifth home run of the season and the score remained 3-0 until the fifth when the offense exploded for nine runs in the inning. Dauphinee singled with one out and pinch runner Cameron Harden moved to second on a single by Mayencourt. Aaron Prince would double home Harden to make it 4-1 and Jaxon Kirkhuff followed with a single that scored courtesy runner Carter Harris to make it 5-1. A wild pitch scored Prince to make it 6-1 and Garrett Fitts followed with a single to score Kirkhuff and make the score 7-1. Following a stolen base and a groundout, Julian Rodriguez walked and pinch hitter Devin Miller was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Astacio, who was also hit by a pitch to make it 8-1. Dauphinee wrapped up the scoring with a grand slam, his seventh home run of the season, and CBC took a 12-1 lead after five. Hannibal would score their second run in the sixth to make it 12-2 before CBC scored the final four runs in the bottom half on a double by Kirkhuff, a two-run double by Rodriguez and a fielder's choice by Dauphinee. Jackson Pope started and picked up his second win, throwing five innings and allowing one unearned run on six hits with two walks and four Ks. Brennan Duhe pitched the sixth, allowing a run on four hits with a pair of strikeouts. Tucker Koester pitched the seventh, striking out two and allowing one hit.
GAME TWO – CBC 4, HLGU 0
Runs and hits were at a premium in the second game. CBC scored each of their first two runs on wild pitches in the second inning. The score remained 2-0 until the fifth when Cameron Harden brought home Fitts with a single to make it 3-0. Mayencourt drove in the final run in the sixth to chase home Dauphinee and make it 4-0. That was all the support Ryan Meyer and Dylan Parton needed. Meyer started and went four-and-one-third innings, allowing four hits and a walk while striking out five picking up win number six. Parton finished the game, allowing just two hits while striking out five for his first career save.
