St. Louis, Mo. – Looking for another series win after a split yesterday, Central Baptist College baseball took on the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets this afternoon at Stars Park in an American Midwest Conference doubleheader. CBC (18-13, 15-5 AMC) exploded offensively, scoring 34 runs in a sweep of HSSU (5-21, 3-17 AMC) by scores of 13-3 and 21-5.
The Mustangs had two records broken, both in the second game. Gram Middleton made his 37th career start, surpassing Brian Moreno for the most starts all-time and Ayden Qualls was hit by a pitch four times, setting a new single-game record.
GAME THREE – CBC 13, HSSU 3
The Mustangs put up three in the first on a single by Brayden Mayencourt and a two-run single by Cameron Harden. Six runs would cross the plate in the second thanks to a two-run single by Ryan Dauphinee, followed by a single by Mayencourt, a double by Harden, and a single by Garrett Fitts to make it 9-0 after two. A sac fly by Dauphinee made it 10-0 in the third before HSSU scored two in the bottom half. Dauphinee would drive in his fourth and fifth runs of the game with a single in the fifth to make the lead 10 again. The Hornets would get another run in the fifth before George Astacio finished the scoring with a single in the sixth. Dylan Parton earned win number four by throwing five innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits with a walk and six strikeouts. Dominic Smith and Rhett James threw the final two innings, combining to allowing two hits with a walk and a strikeout.
GAME FOUR – CBC 21, HSSU 5
CBC scored quickly again in the final game, plating three in the second on an error and a sac fly by Astacio. Fitts started a four-run fourth with another single and he was followed by a single by Aaron Prince, a fielder's choice off the bat of Astacio for his fifth RBI, a bases loaded walk to Mayencourt and an error that plated three off the bat of Harden. Harris-Stowe would score all their runs in the fourth before CBC plated their final five runs in the sixth on a two-run error, a groundout by Cody Kennon and a two-run double by Iziah Tafoya.
