Volleyball Season Ends In Defeat At Harris-Stowe State

            St. Louis, Mo. – Looking to end the season on a high note, Central Baptist College volleyball wrapped up the 2022 season tonight with an American Midwest Conference contest against the Hornets of Harris-Stowe State at the Emerson Performance Center. CBC (4-18, 1-9 AMC) won the first and fourth sets and played HSSU (13-11, 4-5 AMC) close all night, but they couldn't pull off the victory, falling in five sets by scores of 25-20, 22-25, 25-27, 28-26 and 15-17.

            Kenzie Hanks led three Mustangs in double figures in kills with 17 while Mikayla Lawrence chipped in with a season-high 15 and Kylah Shumate had 11. Molly Murphy ended the season with 49 assists in the match and crossed the 500 mark for the second straight season (520) and Mallory Gossett led three players in digs with 20, while Lawrence and Shumate had 12 and 13, respectively, for a double-double, the fourth of Lawrence's career and the second of Shumate's.

MATCH NOTES

  • CBC had 61 kills in the match, their second 60-kill match of the season, while also hitting .143
  • Murphy's 49 assists were tied for her second most this season and it was her 13th 40+ assist match, the most ever
  • The fourth set went over 25, marking the sixth time this season that CBC has taken a set over 25
  • Kailee Walker had a career-high five service aces, marking the 32nd time a player has had five-or-more in a match and the first time since Shumate did it last year against Hannibal-LaGrange
  • The 59 assists were the second-most in a match this season

SEASON NOTES

  • CBC finishes the season with 915 kills, eighth most in a season all-time
  • 860 assists are the seventh most in a single season and the 10.6 assists per set is the third highest total
  • CBC finishes the season with a service percentage of .892, the sixth highest in a season
  • The Mustangs finish with the 10th most digs in a season (1,289) and the fifth highest digs per set in a season (15.9)
  • CBC posted 21 double-doubles this season, accomplished by five players (Murphy, Madeline Freeman, Lawrence, Walker, Shumate)
  • Freeman recorded the first two triple doubles in program history on Oct. 7 @ UHSP and Oct. 13 @ Crowley's Ridge
  • Hanks' 243 kills this season are the 10th most in a season ever
  • Murphy's 520 assists in a season are the 8th most in  a season and she will go into next year in second place all-time with 1,720 assists
  • Walker shattered the previous record for service percentage, .955 by Alexia Woodard in 2017, as she served at a .975 clip this season
