CBC Drops Hard Fought Match in AMC Opener Against Lyon

Conway, Ark. – Returning home for the first time in 13 days, Central Baptist College volleyball opened the American Midwest Conference portion of their schedule tonight with a visit from Lyon College. In front of a raucous crowd at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse, CBC (2-9, 0-1 AMC) fought hard, taking Lyon (7-7, 1-0 AMC) to five sets, losing 3-2 by scores of 17-25, 25-27, 25-13, 25-22 & 11-15.
Molly Murphy and Madeline Freeman both had double-doubles in the contest and several Mustangs either set or tied career highs in different categories. The story of the match was defense as Lyon posted 70 digs and 13 total blocks while CBC had 82 digs and nine total blocks.

- Lyon now leads the all-time series over the Mustangs 20-3
- CBC hit .435 in set three
- The Mustangs dropped to 0-2 this season in five-set matches and 22-27 all-time
- Murphy had 40 assists and 14 digs for her second double-double of the season and the 12th of her career
- The 40 assists for Murphy marked the second time she has achieved that this season and the 10th time in her career she has had 40-or-more
- Freeman had 16 kills, tying a season-high, and 14 digs for her seventh double-double of the season and her fifth in a row
- Kylah Shumate tied her career-high with 10 kills while also setting a new career best with five blocks
- Jaylin Rhoades tied her career-high in kills with five and also posted a new season best with six blocks
- Kenzie Hanks had 14 kills and a career-high tying six digs
- The Mustangs had 55 kills and hit .106, crossing the 50-kill threshold for the second time this season
- The Mustangs also had season highs in digs with 82 and blocks with nine (one solo, 16 assisted)
