2021 Volleyball Season Preview
"This preseason has been really encouraging for the season that lies ahead of us," said head coach Stephanie Irwin. "We've got 11 newcomers and six returners and I'm really excited about the culture that we have been trying to build for the last two years. To really see it all come together and come to fruition. We are really excited about our first scrimmage tomorrow! This season looks really promising for us!"
The 11 newcomers range from 10 freshmen to one transfer. The transfer, Harley Mayfield, comes to CBC from North Central Texas College while the others are from either Arkansas or Texas. Two All-State selections headline the freshmen class in Presley Hamric from Fountain Lake and Kylee Sabella from Mountain Home. The six returners are honorable mention all-AMC defensive specialist Mikayla Lawrence, fellow DS's Mallory Gossett and Whitney Green, middle blocker Reaven Seymore, setter Molly Murphy and outside hitter Emily Farmer.
"These girls are so talented," added Irwin. "The hardest part for me is which of the six players should be the starting six because they are all so talented. I'm excited for the scrimmage tomorrow because I have about three different lineups I'm going to put out there."
The regular season for CBC begins on Tuesday, Aug. 31 at home against the Panthers of Philander Smith College. Coach Irwin added "We're excited about Philander. We split with them last season, we won at home and they won at their place. We're excited to play them at home again. For our Thursday matchup against Champion Christian, I really don't know what to expect. I know their coach is really good. Even though it's a first-year program, I don't want us to think we have a leg up on them."
