Conway, Ark. – Returning to City of Colleges Park for the first time in 10 days, Central Baptist College softball hosted the Crusaders of Dallas Christian College this afternoon. CBC (5-11) swept DCC (10-8), walking off the Crusaders 4-3 in game one and 7-6 in eight innings in game two.
GAME ONE – CBC 4, DCC 3
DCC took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first before Melanie Phillips tied the game with a double in the bottom half. A Kori Truelove single in the third made it 2-1 CBC and the Mustangs held the lead until the sixth inning when DCC tied the game at two. The Crusaders would take a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh inning to set up drama in the bottom of the inning. Taylyn Shuffield walked to lead off the inning, then scored the tying run on a triple by Taviah Bradley. Kassidy Oberan would then single to bring home Bradley and give Isabella Sawyers win number two. Sawyers faced all but two batters, allowing three runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
GAME TWO – CBC 7, DCC 6 (EIGHT INNINGS)
The Crusaders jumped out to a 5-0 lead through four-and-a-half innings with three in the first and two in the fourth. The Mustangs cut the deficit to 5-3 in the bottom of the fourth when Shuffield cleared the bases with a triple. DCC added their final run in the seventh and CBC responded, tying the game thanks a two-run home run by Oberan and an RBI single by Elizabeth Stoufer, which sent the game into extra innings. Dallas Christian threatened in the top of the eighth against starter Ryleigh Keele, but she was able to coax a foul out and a double play to keep the game tied. Dakota Hobson would start the inning on second base due to the international tie breaker and moved to third on a successful sacrifice by Eden East. Shuffield would then end the game, lacing a single off the left field wall to score Hobson and sweep the Crusaders. Keele went the distance, scattering 14 hits and six runs with five strikeouts to earn her second win.
