#MustangsWin! CBC Advances To AMC Championship Game And Clinches Berth In NAIA Opening Round

Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

Conway, Ark. – Looking to survive and advance in the American Midwest Conference Softball Tournament on their home field, Central Baptist College softball took on the Williams Baptist University Eagles in an elimination game at City of Colleges Park. CBC (30-24) dispatched the Eagles (34-14) 4-0 and followed that with a 3-0 win over William Woods (30-17) to advance to the AMC Tournament Championship game for the fourth time in program history.

CBC also clinched a berth in the NAIA Opening Round by advancing to the championship against Missouri Baptist, who already has an automatic bid thanks to their regular season title. The trip to the NAIA Tournament will be the fifth in program history, the first since 2021 and the first under the guidance of Keith Hinson.

GAME ONE – CBC 4, WBU 0

Abi West opened the scoring with a solo home run off the scoreboard in right field to make it 1-0 in the second. The Mustangs added insurance in the sixth on a two-run double by Elizabeth Stoufer and a single by West. That was more than enough for Alex Jeter and Isabella Sawyers, who combined to stretch CBC's scoreless innings streak to 14. Jeter earned her 16th win with 6.1 innings of shutout ball, allowing seven hits and two walks with five Ks. Sawyers came in and earned her third save, retiring two of the three batters she faced.

GAME TWO – CBC 3, WWU 0

Kinley Johnson put the Mustangs on the board in the first inning with an RBI single up the middle to make it 1-0. West added an insurance run with a solo home run in the fourth, her third of the tournament, to make it 2-0 and Johnson followed with her third home run of the tournament in the fifth for CBC's final run. That was all that Sawyers needed as she went the distance, allowing only two hits while walking three and striking out three.

UP NEXT
