Hannibal, Mo. – Entering the day in sole possession of first place in the American Midwest Conference, Central Baptist College softball took on the Trojans of Hannibal-LaGrange today at Veterans' Memorial Stadium. CBC (20-16, 9-1 AMC) split with HLGU (6-20, 1-7 AMC), losing game one 7-6 before winning game two 8-1.
GAME ONE – HLGU 7, CBC 6
The Mustangs jumped out quickly on the Trojans, plating four in the first to lead 4-0 after one. Madalyn Tubbs led the game off with a home run, the first of her career, followed later by a single off the bat of Anna Marie Sternisha and a two-run double by Abi West. Kori Truelove's infield single in the second made it 5-0 CBC before HLGU made it 5-1 in the third. Another double by Truelove in the fourth made it 6-1 and it looked like CBC had put it out of reach before HLGU scored four in the fourth and two in the fifth to stun the previously unbeaten Mustangs.
GAME TWO – CBC 8, HLGU 1
Neither team would score in the first two innings. Tubbs lifted the lid on the scoring in the third with a two-run triple, which was immediately followed by a triple off the bat of Elizabeth Stoufer to make it 3-0 in the third. A Sydney Weiser double in the fourth made it 4-0 and a Dakota Hobson single later in the inning made it 5-0. HLGU's lone run came in the fourth before CBC scored three in the fifth on a single by Sternisha and a two-run double by Weiser. The offense backed a strong effort in the circle by Hailey Marange, who threw a complete game seven-hitter, allowing just one run with a pair of walks and two strikeouts.
