Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director
Conway, Ark. – Playing their penultimate non-conference doubleheader of the season, Central Baptist College softball was at Warrior Field tonight for a doubleheader against crosstown rivals, Hendrix College. CBC (11-15) swept the doubleheader, beating HC (4-8) 4-2 in game one and 15-5 in game two.
GAME ONE – CBC 4, HENDRIX 2
Hendrix got on the board first in game two on a single in the second to give CBC a 1-0 deficit early. Abi West would tie the game in the third with a solo home run, her third of the season. Hendrix retook the lead in the bottom of the third, 2-1, before CBC retook the lead in the fourth on an error and a single by West. Kaylee Harp would pinch hit in the fifth and add an insurance run with a single and that's all that Alex Jeter would need. Jeter went the distance, scattering 12 hits and surrendering two runs (one earned) with a pair of walks and a strikeout for win number five.
GAME TWO – CBC 15, HENDRIX 5 (FIVE INNINGS)
The Mustangs started off quickly in the second game, putting up five of their 15 runs and seven of their 17 hits in the opening frame. Elizabeth Stoufer opened the scoring with a single and Kinley Johnson followed with a single to make it 2-0. West then added another single to make it 3-0 before Taylyn Shuffield brought home two with a pop up single to make it 5-0. Hendrix would pickup a run in the bottom of the first to make it 5-1 before CBC added to the lead in the third on a Madalyn Tubbs double to make it 6-1. The Warriors made it 6-2 in the bottom half before CBC put the game out of reach with five more in the fourth. Eden East brought home the first run of the inning with a single which was followed by a fielder's choice and a sac fly off the bat of Taviah Bradley to make it 9-2 before Tubbs doubled again, this time bringing home two and making it 11-2. West would club her second home run of the night and fourth of the season with a three run blast in the fifth and Casi Saunders brought home CBC's final run of the contest with another single also in the fifth. Hendrix would score three in the bottom half, but Isabella Sawyers struck out the final hitter to put the run rule into effect. Sawyers went two-and-two-thirds and gave up two runs on six hits with a pair of walks and three Ks while Hailey Marange got her third win in relief, throwing two-and-a-third, allowing three runs on five hits.
