Columbia, Mo. – Looking to make their third trip to the American Midwest Conference tournament championship since 2018, Central Baptist College softball took on the Comets of Cottey College this morning at the Antimi Softball Complex. CBC (32-21) got an early lead but couldn't hang onto it, falling 5-4 to CC (30-19) to drop into the elimination bracket at the tournament.
Cottey got on the board first and led 1-0 after one. CBC scored three in the second on Abi West's 15th home run of the season, a three-run shot to take a 3-1 lead. Cottey would tie the game in the fourth and take a 5-3 lead in the fifth before Kinley Johnson doubled in a run in the sixth to make it 5-4. Alex Jeter started for the Mustangs and surrendered five runs (four earned) in 4.2 innings before giving way to Isabella Sawyers, who allowed only two hits and two walks in one-and-a-third in relief.
CBC will play an elimination game tomorrow with another chance to get back to the title game.
