Conway, Ark. – Sitting in sole possession of first place in the American Midwest Conference, Central Baptist College softball hosted the Spartans of Missouri Baptist this afternoon at City of Colleges Park. CBC (21-15, 7-1 AMC) earned a split with MBU (25-9, 10-2 AMC), dropping game one 3-2 in eight innings before winning game two 5-3.
GAME ONE – MBU 3, CBC 2 (EIGHT INNINGS)
Neither team scored for the first three innings as a pitcher's dual broke out between Brooklyn Fischer of Missouri Baptist and Hannah Work, who was in the circle for the Mustangs. Abi West broke the deadlock with a solo home run in the fourth to make it 1-0 before MBU answered in the top of the fifth to take a 2-1 lead. West tied the game in the seventh with another solo home run, her 12th of the season, to send the game into extra innings. MBU capitalized in the top of the eighth, plated a run with the bases loaded. CBC would get two into scoring position with two outs, but couldn't get West to the plate one more time. Work went seven and two-thirds and allowed three runs on 11 hits with four Ks. Isabella Sawyers got the last out of the eighth.
GAME TWO – CBC 5, MBU 3
Missouri Baptist actually got on the board first in game two, scoring on an error in the top of the first to make it 1-0. Kori Truelove then launched a three-run homer in the bottom of the first, her third of the season, to make it 3-1. MBU made it a one run contest in the fifth before the Mustangs scored a couple in the sixth on a single by Lauren Anderson and a double by Kinley Johnson to make it 5-2. The Spartans got another run in the seventh, but couldn't get anything else across against Alex Jeter, who went the distance for win #9, scattering seven hits and allowing three runs (two earned) with three Ks.

The Mustangs are back home on Friday for a doubleheader with seven-time defending AMC Tournament champion Columbia. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
