Conway, Ark. – Looking to start their American Midwest Conference home schedule off with a bang, Central Baptist College softball hosted the Trojans of Hannibal-LaGrange University this afternoon at City of Colleges Park. CBC (20-14, 6-0 AMC) run-ruled HLGU (3-29, 1-9 AMC) in both contests by scores of 18-2 and 12-2, grabbing sole possession of first place in the AMC for the first time this season.

In game one the Mustangs blasted six home runs, two each from Abi West and Kinley Johnson with Kori Truelove and Caroline Byers joining in as well. The six home runs were the most in a game since CBC clubbed five against Bacone in Feb. of 2016.

GAME ONE – CBC 18, HLGU 2 (FIVE INNINGS)

HLGU grabbed the lead in the first inning, scoring a run on a single to lead it 1-0. CBC would plate six in the first inning to make it 6-1 after one thanks to a three-run dinger from West, a solo shot from Johnson, who went back-to-back with West, a solo shot from Byers and an error. Five more runs crossed the plate in the second thanks to Johnson's second home run of the game, a two-run blast (her fourth multi-homer game this season), a triple by Truelove, a single by Byers and a single by Ysabella Esquivel. HLGU would score their final run on a solo homer in the third before CBC scored four in the bottom half on Truelove's three run bomb and a single by Madalyn Tubbs. The final three runs crossed the plate in the fourth thanks to West's second home run of the game, a two-run shot, and a single from Truelove. Hannah Work earned the win, throwing four innings and allowing two runs on three hits with three strikeouts. Isabella Sawyers pitched a perfect fifth, striking out two.

GAME TWO – CBC 12, HLGU 2 (FIVE INNINGS)

CBC jumped on the board first in game two thanks to an error by the HLGU catcher and an RBI single by Savannah Sanford. HLGU got their first run in the second to make it 2-1 before CBC plated six in the second to put the game away. Sanford started the scoring with a two-run single, which was followed by a two-run double by Truelove and a two-run single by Lauren Anderson. A two-run double by Truelove in the third put CBC up 10-1 before back-to-back triples by Esquivel and Bruce made it 12-1 in the fourth. HLGU got their final run on a sac fly in the fifth. Alex Jeter picked up win number nine on the season, allowing one run on two hits with two Ks in four innings. Mallory Reynolds allowed a run on a hit in the fifth.
