Softball Swept on Final Day of Gulf Coast Invitational

            Gulf Shores, Ala. – Following a split on day one of the Gulf Coast Invitational, Central Baptist College softball took on Oklahoma Wesleyan and Central Methodist on the second day at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex. CBC (8-10) dropped the first contest to OWU (12-5) 5-0 before a close loss to Central Methodist (13-2) 5-4.

GAME ONE – OKLAHOMA WESLEYAN 5, CBC 0

            Neither team scored in the first three innings. The Eagles broke through in the fourth, scoring twice in that inning, twice in the fifth and once in the seventh. CBC had six hits in the contest, two from Jordyn Frederic and one each for Abi West, Kori Truelove, Madeline Bruce and Ysabella Esquivel.

GAME TWO – CENTRAL METHODIST 5, CBC 4

            CMU would take the lead, 1-0, in the first on a sacrifice fly. CBC took the lead in the fourth thanks to a two-run home run from Abi West, her sixth of the season. CMU would tie the game in the fifth at two and the game went into extra innings at that juncture. A Madeline Bruce double in the eighth made it 3-2 CBC, but CMU would tie the game in bottom half and send it into the ninth. Lauren Anderson singled home a run in the ninth for a 4-3 lead, but CMU would tie the game on a sac fly then walkoff the game with a single in the bottom half.

UP NEXT

            The Mustangs head to Batesville on Saturday for a doubleheader against former American Midwest Conference rival Lyon. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
