Mustangs Stung In Texas

            Marshall, Texas – Playing a pair of NCAA Division III opponents this afternoon, Central Baptist College softball was at Taylor Field for games against the Yellowjackets of LeTourneau University and the Tigers of East Texas Baptist University, who are currently ranked #16 in Division III. CBC (7-7) was unable to muster much offense, falling to LETU (1-4) 7-3 before dropping the second contest 7-0 to ETBU (3-0).

GAME ONE – LETU 7, CBC 3

            LeTourneau struck first in the first, plating two runs to go up 2-0 after a half inning. CBC would tie the game in the third on an RBI double by Abi West and then a double steal two batters later, with West scoring the tying run. In the bottom of the third, LETU would score two more times to make it 4-2 and they added two more in the fourth and one in the fifth to head into the final inning up 7-2. CBC tried to chip away, but couldn't, scoring only one run on a fielder's choice to bring the score final. It was just the second meeting all-time between CBC and LeTourneau and the first since 2007.

GAME TWO – ETBU 7, CBC 0

            A pitcher's dual broke out in the first four innings of game two before the Tigers finally cracked the Mustangs code. ETBU plated four in the fifth and three in the fourth for all their scoring while CBC only mustered two hits in the game, a leadoff double by Ysabella Esquivel in the first and a two-out single by Kinley Johnson in the seventh.

UP NEXT

            The Mustangs head to Gulf Shores, Ala., for the Gulf Coast Invitational this weekend. CBC will play four games, two each on Friday and Saturday. First pitch against Point University on Friday is slated for 9 a.m. with first pitch against Tennessee Southern to follow. Saturday's opponents will be Lindsey Wilson and Brenau.
