Softball's Run In AMC Tournament Ends Against Cottey

Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

Columbia, Mo. – Looking to avoid elimination for the second straight day, Central Baptist College softball took on the Cottey Comets in a win-or-go-home game in the American Midwest Conference Tournament at Antimi Softball Complex. CBC (34-18) couldn't solve Cottey's (33-18) starting pitcher and saw their run in the AMC Tournament end 4-3.

The Comets scored one in the first, one in the second and two in the third for their three runs. CBC scored all three of their runs in the third against a reliever for Cottey. Averie Ayers drew a bases loaded walk to score Heather Hoffman and make it 4-1. Katie Smith followed and was hit by a pitch to make it 4-2 and Allison Wagle hit a sac fly to center to make it 4-3. CBC couldn't crack the score board again.

CBC will now wait and see if their resume is good enough to qualify for NAIA Opening Rounds. The selection show is Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. on the NAIA's YouTube channel.
