#MustangsWin! CBC Comes Back Late To Advance in Winner's Bracket

Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

Columbia, Mo. – Opening up play today in the American Midwest Conference tournament, Central Baptist College softball, the #3 seed, took on the #6 seed Williams Baptist in the opening round of the tournament. CBC (33-16) had to come from behind late, but a late double helped them down WBU (18-30) 5-4.

Heather Hoffman opened the scoring in the second with a solo home run to make it 1-0. Williams Baptist would tie the game at one in the third and CBC took the lead in the bottom half thanks to a Madeline Bruce double and a fielder's choice off the bat of Katie Smith to make it 3-1 after three. WBU plated three runs in the fourth to take a 4-3 lead and it stayed that way until the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth, Lauren Anderson led off the inning with a single and pinch hitter Maddie Thompson walked to put two runners on base for Jordyn Frederic, who doubled to left to give CBC a 5-4 lead. Starter Hannah Work put the Eagles down one, two, three in the seventh to secure the victory and move the Mustangs into the winner's bracket second round. Work threw a complete game, scattering six hits and allowing four runs (two earned) with a pair of walks to earn her 12th win of the season and move into a tie for fourth all-time in career wins with 32.

The Mustangs are off until noon tomorrow when they take on the Missouri Baptist Spartans in a winner's bracket game at the Antimi Softball Complex.
