#MustangsWin! Softball Clinches Three Seed In AMC Tournament With Sweep of Williams Baptist!

Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

Walnut Ridge, Ark. – Putting a bow on American Midwest Conference play this afternoon, Central Baptist College softball was at Lady Eagle Field for a doubleheader against Williams Baptist. CBC (30-16, 16-4 AMC) got clutch hitting in later innings to sweep WBU (18-26, 9-11 AMC) 6-5 and 3-2 in eight innings.

GAME ONE – CBC 3, WBU 2

A pitcher's dual broke out in the first four innings and there was no score headed into the fifth. Katie Smith gave CBC a 1-0 lead in the fifth with a double before WBU tied the game in the bottom half. Lauren Anderson's two-run homer in the sixth, her eighth of the season, put CBC up 3-1 and WBU made it 3-2 in the bottom half but couldn't come any closer. Hannah Work picked up win #11, allowing five hits and two runs with two walks and a strikeout in five-and-two-thirds innings. Alex Jeter earned her third save by pitching the final inning-and-a-third and allowing just one hit with a strikeout.

GAME TWO – CBC 6, WBU 5 (EIGHT INNINGS)

Game two was the opposite story from game one as both teams scored early and then didn't score again until late. Smith singled in the first run of the game in the first to give CBC a 1-0 lead until the bottom half when WBU took a 2-1 lead. It stayed that way until the fourth when Heather Hoffman sacrificed to bring in the tying run and then two runs scored via an error to make it 4-2 Mustangs. WBU would tie the game in the fourth to send the contest into extra innings after neither team scored in the fifth, sixth or seventh. Allison Wagle's 12th home run of the season, a two-run shot in the eighth, gave CBC a 6-4 lead and WBU only pushed one across in the bottom half to bring the score final and get CBC to win number 30. Averie Ayers earned her 12th win of the season, allowing 11 hits and five runs (two earned) with five walks and six strikeouts in a complete game.
