#MustangsWin! CBC Sweeps William Woods

Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

Conway, Ark. – Returning to American Midwest Conference play this afternoon, Central Baptist College softball hosted the Owls of William Woods University at City of College Park. CBC (20-14, 8-2 AMC) took care of business, capitalizing on WWU (12-19, 6-2 AMC) mistakes to sweep the doubleheader 8-5 and 8-0.

GAME ONE – CBC 8, WWU 5

William Woods got on the board first in game one, taking a 1-0 lead quickly in the second. CBC would take the lead in the third on a groundout by Jordyn Frederic and an error by the WWU left fielder to lead 2-1 after three. A WWU homer tied the game in the fifth before CBC blew the game open in the sixth thanks to back-to-back two-run singles by Lauren Anderson and Savannah Sanford and a two-run homer by Kori Truelove, her second of the season to make it 8-2 after six. WWU would get three in the seventh before Ysabella Esquivel, who allowed one hit and one run with two walks and a strikeout, locked down the victory. Hannah Work picked up win number eight by going six innings and allowing four runs on five hits with three walks and four Ks.

GAME TWO – CBC 8, WWU 0 (FIVE INNINGS)

Every CBC starter had at least one hit in game two and the Mustangs score quickly in the second on a fielder's choice to make it 1-0. The Mustangs would put the game away in the fourth with seven runs thanks to a two-run double by Anderson, a triple by Heather Hoffman, a single by Madalyn Tubbs, a two-run single by Madeline Bruce and a steal of home by Sanford. Averie Ayers was dominant in the circle, striking out six and walking two while allowing just two hits in her seventh win of the season.
