Conway, Ark. – Playing back at the friendly confines of City of Colleges Park this afternoon, Central Baptist College softball hosted the Trojans of Hannibal-LaGrange University in an American Midwest Conference doubleheader. CBC (16-14, 6-2 AMC) survived a scare in game one before run ruling HLGU (9-22, 2-6 AMC) by scores of 3-2 and 12-1.
The Mustangs blasted three home runs in the doubleheader and got excellent pitching in both games. Heather Hoffman clubbed her first two home runs in a Mustang uniform in each end of the doubleheader while Lauren Anderson homered for the fourth time this week and fifth time this season.
GAME ONE – CBC 3, HLGU 2
CBC got on the board early in game one as Allison Wagle drove in the first run of the game with a single to make it 1-0 after one. Anderson would make it 2-0 in the third and it would stay that way until the sixth, when HLGU tied the game at two. Hoffman's first home run of the season, a solo blast, gave CBC a 3-2 lead headed to the seventh and Alex Jeter put the Trojans down in order for her first save of the year, striking out two of the three batters she faced. Hannah work started and went three-and-one-third innings, allowing two hits while walking two and striking out one. Ysaballa Esquivel got the win in relief, throw two-and-two-thirds innings, surrendering two runs on four hits with a strikeout.
GAME TWO – CBC 12, HLGU 1 (FINAL – FIVE INNINGS)
The Mustangs put game two away early, scoring six in the first inning thanks to a two-run double by Hoffman, a three-run home run by Anderson and a single from Jordyn Frederic. Hoffman's second home run of the day and second of the season, a two-run shot, made it 8-0 in the second and the Mustangs capped the scoring in the third with four runs courtesy of a two run double by Madalyn Tubbs, a double by Kori Truelove and a double from Hoffman, giving her five RBIs in the second game. HLGU's only run came in the fourth inning. Averie Ayers started and threw two perfect innings with two strikeouts. Emily Cole allowed the only hit and only run of the contest in two innings while also walking two and Gracie Keathley came in and threw a perfect fifth inning.
