Gulf Shores, Ala. – After going 2-1 on day one of the Gulf Coast Invitational, Central Baptist College softball was back at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex for two more games this afternoon. CBC (8-12) split on the final day, beating LSU-Alexandria in game one before falling to Saint Xavier in game two.
GAME ONE – CBC 4, LSU-ALEXANDRIA 2
A pitcher's dual between CBC starter Alex Jeter and LSU-A starter Taylor Spencer broke out early as the pitchers kept both teams off the board for four innings. CBC struck first in the top of the fifth, taking a 1-0 lead courtesy of an error and they would extend the lead to 2-0 later in the inning on an RBI single by Katie Smith. LSU-A finally got to Jeter in the fifth, tying the game at two before Hannah Work came in and got out of the inning. The offense picked up Work in the sixth, scoring the final two runs on a sac fly by Lauren Anderson and an infield single by Jordyn Frederic. Jeter did not factor in the decision, allowing four hits and two runs with one strikeout in four-and-one-third innings. Work got the win in relief, allowing just four hits and a walk over the final two-and-two-thirds.
GAME TWO – SAINT XAVIER 8, CBC 0
Saint Xavier scored runs in every inning except the second and were benefitted by five CBC errors. The bright spots in the game were Aubrey Jackson's pinch hit double in the bottom of the sixth and the pitching of freshman Olivia Pickard, who allowed just two hits and two unearned runs with two strikeouts in the final two-and-one-third innings.
UP NEXT
CBC will take the next 17 days off and return to the field in Clarksville, Ark., on the 21st for a doubleheader with University of the Ozarks. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
