McKenzie, Tenn. – Playing a doubleheader that was originally scheduled for Saturday this afternoon, Central Baptist College was at Lady Wildcat field for a meeting with Bethel University. CBC (5-10) dropped both games to BU (4-2) in walkoff fashion, falling 12-11 in eight innings in game one before losing 4-3 in game two.
GAME ONE – BETHEL 12, CBC 11 (EIGHT INNINGS)
Allison Wagle struck early again in game one, blasting a two-run home run, her seventh of the season, to make it 2-0 in the first. Bethel would make it 4-2 after one and neither team would score in the second. Wagle's third RBI of the game made it 4-3 in the third before Bethel scored twice in the bottom half to make it 6-3. A pair of RBI singles from Averie Ayers and Maddie Thompson cut the deficit to one, 6-5, in the fourth and CBC would take a 9-6 lead in the fifth courtesy of a two-run single by Savannah Sanford, an RBI hit by pitch to Jordyn Frederic and another RBI single from Thompson. CBC saw their lead reduced to 10-9 in the bottom half before scoring a run on an error in the sixth to make it 11-9. Bethel would tally single runs in each of the next three innings and won the game in the eighth on an error. Hannah Work started in the circle and faced only eight batters, allowing three hits and four runs with one walk and two hit batters. Emily Cole threw three-and-two-thirds innings and surrendered six runs (five earned) on eight hits with a walk and four Ks. Ysabella Esquivel was given the loss, allowing five hits and two runs (one earned) in two-and-two-thirds.
GAME TWO – BETHEL 4, CBC 3
A pitcher's dual broke out in the first three innings of game two as neither team put a run across the plate. CBC finally broke through in the fourth with a triple by Heather Hoffman that chased home Wagle. CBC would make it 3-0 in the fifth on a bases loaded walk to Maddie Thompson and a wild pitch. Ayers dominated through six but ran into trouble in the seventh, surrendering the winning runs before Alex Jeter could come in and get out of it. Ayers got the tough loss, throwing six-and-two-thirds innings and scattering eight hits and four runs (one earned) with a pair of walks and a strikeout. Jeter faced the final batter of the game and allowed the win run to score on an error.
