Conway, Ark. – Having advanced to the American Midwest Conference tournament semifinals last year, Central Baptist College men's soccer kicks off their season tomorrow afternoon against Paul Quinn College. Kickoff from Dallas, Texas is slated for 5 p.m. and a recap of the match will be available tomorrow night on the web.
CBC went 9-10-1 last season and 4-5 in the AMC, defeating Williams Baptist 2-1 in the quarterfinals before falling 6-1 to Lyon in the semifinals. The Mustangs were picked sixth in the AMC coaches poll that was released yesterday despite returning 14 players from last year, including all-conference performers Callum Bisset, Chris Orellana and Andrea Migliozzi. The other returners include goalkeeper Tyler Norris, midfielders Marcos Pires and Michael Settle, defenders Okikiola Ojeniyi, Manny Almaraz, Jesus Avila, Rodney Vasques, Mario Ceballos and Jose Simon-Nieves and forwards Ethan Urban and Victor Sanches.
The newcomers have an extremely foreign flair to them, with goalkeeper Jasper Gadellaa coming in from the Netherlands and three players from England, Joe McElhinney, Daniel Pinkney, and George Caudwell sprinkled throughout the lineup, joining forward Alfredo Lopez from Mexico. Cameron Gordon also joins the team, coming to play for his dad, coach Lance Gordon. The home opener is at 4 p.m. on Fri., Sept. 2, so be sure to come out and support the Mustangs all season long.
