Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

Olathe, Kan. – Looking to make history in the first round of the NAIA Men's Basketball Championship presented by Ballogy, Central Baptist College, the #14 seed in the Cramer Quadrant, took on the #3 seed MidAmerica Nazarene Pioneers at the Cook Center. CBC (26-6) completed their mission, winning their first ever game in the National Tournament, 100-90 in double overtime, ending MNU's season at 25-6.

Six Mustangs scored in double figures, led by 25 from Deshawn Corprew. Kyle Harding had 15 off the bench, Sage Borbon and Devin Foster both had 14, Wade Williams contributed with 13 off the bench and Jonas Carlisle finished with 12 and also had a team-high eight rebounds.

GAME FLOW

Corprew made the first field goal of the game at the 16:44 mark and put CBC ahead 3-1. The Mustangs would lead by as many as nine in the first half, but the Pioneers never went away, tying the game at 21 with 4:51 left in the half. Following a layup from Foster to put CBC back ahead, the offense went cold and MNU closed the half on a 13-4 run to lead 34-27 at halftime.

The teams would trade baskets to open the second half and CBC trailed 40-33 with 18:27 left to play. Back-to-back Corprew threes cut the deficit to one, but the Mustangs couldn't find a lead until a layup from Harding with 8:06 left put CBC ahead 59-57. Neither team led by more than four the rest of the half and a three from Corprew with 55 seconds left tied the score at 73. CBC had a chance to win it at the buzzer, but Corprew's shot was blocked and the game went into overtime.

Corprew opened the scoring in overtime with another layup to make it 75-73, and following a free throw, Williams canned a three with 3:03 left to make it 78-74. A Corprew free throw with 1:24 left in overtime made it 79-77 and had four chances to ice the game at the line down the stretch, missing at the free throw line and sending the game into double overtime after MNU beat the buzzer to tie the game at 79. In the second overtime, CBC opened with back-to-back field goals from Harding and Foster, which spurred a 7-0 run to start overtime, capped by a jumper from Williams with 2:36 left to make it 86-79. A layup from Borbon with 2:10 left made it 88-81 and he went 10-10 at the line down the stretch to ice the game and make history for CBC.
