Mustangs Drop Road Contest To Blue Mountain Christian

Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

Blue Mountain, Miss. – Playing on the road for the ninth consecutive game, Central Baptist College men's basketball took on the Toppers of Blue Mountain Christian University today at Topper Gym. CBC (8-3) trailed at halftime, came back, but ultimately saw their five-game winning streak come to an end, 59-58, to BMCU (5-5).

Deshawn Corprew led the way with a 20 point, 11 rebound double-double, his fifth double-double of the season, while Sage Borbon chipped in with 18 and Jonas Carlisle had 10. CBC trailed in statiscal categories all over, getting outrebounded 37-34, committing 12 turnovers while forcing only six, getting outscored in the paint 34-22 and getting outscored off the bench 21-2.

GAME FLOW

The Toppers led the entire first half, pushing the lead to as many as eight before the Mustangs cut the deficit to 24-22 at halftime, just the second time CBC has trailed at the half this season. Borbon canned a three to open the second half to give CBC a 25-24 lead and the teams went back-and-forth until CBC took a 43-39 lead with 11:10 left thanks to a three from Corprew. The Mustangs would hold the lead until the 7:31 mark when BMCU tied the game at 50, then took the lead following a turnover 53-50. Carlisle would convert an old fashioned three-point play with 5:35 left to tie the game at 53, but Blue Mountain pushed the lead to four in the next two possessions. Borbon had an opportunity to make the deficit one, but missed two of three free throws to make it 57-54 with 3:38 left. Corprew's layup with 1:48 left made it 57-56 but BMCU got a jumper with 39 seconds left to make it 59-56. Another Corprew bucket with 20 seconds to play made it 59-58 and with 17 seconds left, Carlisle missed a three that would have given CBC the lead.
