Fulton, Mo. – Looking for an American Midwest Conference season sweep today, Central Baptist College was on the court at Anderson Arena for a clash at William Woods. CBC (16-9, 8-5 AMC) could hold William Woods' (12-10, 6-6 AMC) late surge and dropped the contest 73-70.
Gabe Johnson led the Mustangs with a career-high 23 points while James Moore added 13 and Brevin Brimble had 11. The game was decided at the free throw line and in the point as WWU went 26-33 at the line (opposed to 14-20 for CBC) and outscored CBC 40-26 in the paint.
GAME FLOW – SECOND HALF
Taking a 30-29 lead into the break, CBC was immediately able to capitalize in the second half scoring the first eight points of the half to lead 38-29 with 18:21 left. The lead would balloon to 10 until the Owls started to comeback, tying the game at 47, 49 and 52 before the lead switched hands five times until 5:58 was left on the clock and WWU took the lead and held on despite Johnson making four threes over the final 2:52 to close the deficit back to an opportunity to tie and Johnson missed with two seconds left to hand CBC the loss.
