Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director
Conway, Ark. – Welcoming the American Midwest Conference champions into Reddin Fieldhouse, Central Baptist College men's basketball hosted the Spartans of Missouri Baptist this afternoon. CBC (13-13, 9-5 AMC) ended the nation's longest current winning streak, dominating the second half to beat MBU (21-5, 14-1 AMC) 73-57.
Jalen Adams led the Mustangs in scoring with 16 points off the bench. Three other players, Kelvin Robinson, James Moore and Jordan Parker also had double figures scoring while CBC shot 58 percent from the floor in the second half while holding Missouri Baptist to just 40 percent shooting.
GAME FLOW
Robinson opened the scoring 58 seconds into the game and CBC held the lead the entire first half, never leading by more than seven and taking a 32-27 lead into the locker room. MBU tried to chip away early in the second half, but the Mustangs responded every time, never allowing MBU to get closer than three until the 14:55 mark when a three cut the Mustangs' lead to two. A quick answer stretched the lead out again until MBU came back to tie the game at 43 with 13:20 left and take a 46-43 lead to cap an 8-0 run for the Spartans with 12:01 left to play. A Moore jumper and then Adams' first of four threes on the day returned the lead to CBC, but the champs wouldn't go quietly, tying the game at 48 on a pair of free throws. Then, with 9:40 left in the contest, Robinson made a layup to start an 11-0 run for CBC that lasted almost four minutes and pushed the Mustangs ahead for good, highlighted by threes on three straight possessions, one by Parker and two by Adams. The lead would never drop below 10 points again as CBC ended the nation's current longest winning streak and stayed undefeated at home against AMC opponents and moved to 9-1 this year when leading at halftime.
