CBC Fights Hard to Comeback Against John Brown

Conway, Ark. – Trailing by 26 points with 7:24 left in the first half, Central Baptist College men's basketball had to fight back in last night's contest against the Golden Eagles of John Brown University. CBC (0-4) would trail by 17 at halftime, tie the score at 69 apiece before falling in overtime to JBU (3-1).

Kelvin Robinson had a career night last with his first double-double as a Mustang, scoring 37 points and grabbing 18 rebounds. The 37 points were the fifth most ever in a single game and it was the first 30 point effort by a Mustang since Quentre Roberts put 30 on Crowley's Ridge in Feb. of 2020. Robinson's 18 rebounds tied for the fourth most ever in a single game and was the second contest this season of at least 18 (Mayan Kiir – 20 vs. Our Lady of the Lake). Jordan Parker was the only other Mustang in double figures, scoring 13 on the night.

JBU got out to a 34-8 lead with 7:26 left in the first half and CBC started to chip away, finishing the half on a 19-10 run to trail 44-27 at the break. The deficit was 53-36 with 13:21 left in the second half before CBC began a 16-0 run over the next 4:09 to trim the deficit to 53-52. JBU would lengthen the lead back to nine at 64-55 with 4:53 left, but the Mustangs did not go away, closing on a 14-5 run capped by a Jordan Parker runner to send the game into overtime tied at 69.

Robinson made a layup with 4:53 left in overtime to give CBC their first and only lead of the game at 71-69, but JBU tied it 19 seconds later and retook the lead for good with 3:48 left. CBC would go 2-8 in the extra period with the only other field goal being a Kiir dunk with 2:51 left.

Next up for the Mustangs is a trip to Jonesboro on Monday for an exhibition game with Arkansas State. Tipoff is at 7 p.m. and live coverage can be found if you like and follow @gocbcmustangs on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
