Alton, Ill. – Coming off a split yesterday, Central Baptist College baseball looked for an American Midwest Conference opening series win today against the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy Eutectics. CBC (16-12, 2-1 AMC) got behind early, then scored 17 unanswered runs to down UHSP (8-12, 1-2 AMC) 17-3 to win their first AMC series of the season.
UHSP led 3-0 after three innings. CBC finally cracked the scoreboard in the fifth inning, scoring five runs on a Preston White bases loaded walk, a bases clearing double by Ryan Dauphinee and a single by Garrett Fitts to lead 5-3 after five innings. The Mustangs pushed their sixth run across in the seventh on an error and then run-ruled the Eutectics with 11 runs in the eighth inning. Aaron Prince started the scoring with a single before White brought home another run when he was hit by a pitch. A passed ball plated another run, which was followed by a groundout by Brayden Mayencourt, a two-run single by Fitts, a double by Josh Lumsden, an error, a single by Cesar Franco and the final two runs on Aaron Prince's fourth home run of the season. Trey Watson started and didn't factor in the decision, allowing three runs on four hits in three innings with three strikeouts. Ryan Meyer earned the win in relief, allowing just one hit in five innings with four strikeouts.
