Mustangs Split With Eutectics

            Alton, Ill. – Opening American Midwest Conference play this afternoon, Central Baptist College baseball took on the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy at Hawkins Field.  CBC (15-12, 1-1 AMC) split with UHSP (8-11, 1-1 AMC), losing game one 2-1 before taking game two 8-1.

GAME ONE – UHSP 2, CBC 1

            UHSP scored their only runs on a home run in the first inning. CBC scored their run in the seventh inning on a ground out by George Astacio, but couldn't get any closer. Aiden Jones threw his fourth straight complete game, but picked up the loss, allowing six hits and two runs with four Ks.

GAME TWO – CBC 8, UHSP 1

            CBC took an early lead in the second game as Jaxon Kirkhuff drove in his first run with a single to make it 1-0 in the second. Kirkhuff drove in the second run in the fourth to make it 2-0 and the score would stay that way until the seventh when Cesar Franco drove in a run to make it 3-0. A UHSP home run in the eighth cut the lead to 3-1 before CBC plated five in the ninth to put the game out of reach. Astacio drove in the first run of the inning with a single, followed by a single by Franco. Aaron Prince brought home two with a single later and Ryan Dauphinee drove in the final run also with a single. Dylan Parton earned win number five, throwing seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits with six strikeouts. Eric de Jesus allowed the only run on a pair of hits in the eighth. Jamin Smith threw the ninth and struck out the side in order.

            The Mustangs and Eutectics wrap up their series tomorrow at Hawkins Park with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
