Hannibal, Mo. – Playing an American Midwest Conference series on the road for the second straight weekend, Central Baptist College baseball was at Hannibal High School today for game one against the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans. CBC (29-12, 10-6 AMC) jumped up early and never relented, shutting out HLGU (9-23, 4-12 AMC) 16-0.
The win was the 22nd in 26 meetings all-time against the Trojans. Gram Middleton dominated on the mound, allowing only seven baserunners while the Hicks twins combined to go 7-7 with two doubles, a home run and six RBIs.
CBC opened the game with a bang, scoring a single run in the first inning on a leadoff homer by Cade McBride, his fourth of the season. Jacori Hicks drove in his first run on a single in the third followed by singles from Ruben Hernandez and Jalen Hicks to make it 4-0 after three. CBC would tally a single un in the fourth on Ryan Dauphinee's 19th double of the season to make it 5-0 and then blew the game open in the fifth, scoring eight times in the inning. Jalen Hicks opened the scoring with a solo home run, his second of the season, to make it 6-0. McBride notched his second RBI of the day later in the inning on a single, followed two batters later by a bases clearing double off the bat of Jacori Hicks. Ruben Hernandez then made it 13-0 three batters after that with a three-run blast, number five for him on the season. The final three runs came across in the seventh without the benefit of a hit, scoring on a double play, a wild pitch and a passed ball to make it 16-0. Middleton threw his first career complete game shutout, allowing only two hits and two walks with three hit batters and eight strikeouts on 106 pitches.
The Mustangs will go for the sweep tomorrow in a doubleheader at Nichols Field on the HLGU campus. First pitch will be at 11 a.m.
