#MustangsWin! CBC Sweeps Doubleheader from Harris-Stowe

            North Little Rock, Ark. – Looking to run their winning streak to four in a row, Central Baptist College baseball took on the Hornets of Harris-Stowe State this afternoon in an American Midwest Conference Doubleheader at DeSalvo Memorial Stadium. CBC (25-9, 7-3 AMC) took care of business, sweeping HSSU (1-20, 0-11 AMC) by scores of 6-3 and 12-5.

GAME ONE – CBC 6, HSSU 3

            The Mustangs scored the first run of the game on a wild pitch to make it 1-0 after one. The score stayed that way until the top of the fourth when the Hornets tied the game with a single. Jacori Hicks gave CBC the lead in the fourth with a solo home run and Austin Teal brought in a second run that inning with a double. Harris-Stowe would tie the game again in the fifth before Ruben Hernandez's third home run of the season made it 4-3 in the bottom half. The final two runs scored in the sixth when Hernandez brought in a run with ground ball followed by a second run via an error on the same play. Jackson Pope earned the win, throwing six innings and allowing three runs on nine hits with six Ks. Austin LeJeune earned his second save, allowing two hits while striking out two in the seventh.

GAME TWO – CBC 12, HSSU 5

            Harris-Stowe took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two on a sac fly before the Mustangs tied the score in the bottom half on a wild pitch. CBC would take the lead in the second with four runs on a double by Brennan Duhe, an error on a failed pickoff, a single by Teal and a single by Luke McBride to make it 5-1. The Hornets cut it to 5-3 in the third before a two-run single by Danilo Taborda in the third put the game away, making it 7-3 after three. Cade McBride brought home two run with a single in the fourth and Teal notched another RBI hit in the fifth to make it 10-3. Two more runs crossed the plate in the sixth on a throwing error and an RBI single by Cameron Harden, making it 12-3 before the Hornets pushed across runs in the seventh and eighth to wrap up the scoring. Jaxon Kirkhuff was the winner, throwing six innings and allowing three runs on nine hits with a pair of strikeouts. Jackson Lindsey struck out the side in the seventh around a hit and a run. Julio Escobar allowed a hit and walked a man in the eighth with one strikeout and Landon Hitchcock closed out the contest with a scoreless ninth that included a strikeout.

            CBC goes for the sweep tomorrow at DeSalvo Memorial Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
