North Little Rock, Ark. – Playing the first two games of a three-game American Midwest Conference weekend series today, Central Baptist College baseball hosted the #12 Spartans of Missouri Baptist this afternoon at DeSalvo Memorial Stadium. CBC (21-8, 6-2 AMC) split with MBU (22-8, 7-1 AMC), dropping game one 11-5 before winning game two 13-5.
GAME ONE - #12 MISSOURI BAPTIST 11, CBC 5
CBC got on the board first in game one, notching a pair of runs on an RBI single by Ian Velazquez and another RBI single by Austin Teal to make it 2-0 after two. Following a bizarre 40-minute delay, Missouri Baptist would score eight runs in the third to take an 8-2 lead after three innings. Austin Teal's sixth home run of the season, a two-run blast in the fifth, made it 8-4 before MBU got a two-run homer in the sixth and a bases loaded walk in the seventh to make it 11-4. The final run of the game scored on a double by Danilo Taborda in the seventh.
GAME TWO – CBC 13, #12 MBU 5
CBC took an early lead again in game two, scoring three in the first on a two-run single by Chett McDaniel and a bases loaded walk to Ryan Dauphinee. The Mustangs tacked on five in the third, making it 8-0, thanks to an RBI fielder's choice off Teal's bat and a grand slam by Cade McBride two batters later, his third home run of the season. MBU would score the next five runs, with one in the fourth, three in the fifth and one in the seventh, making it 8-5 with two innings to play. CBC would put the game away in the eighth with five runs coming via a two-run double by Kevin Gutierrez, an RBI single by Dauphinee and a two-run single by Teal. Jaxon Kirkhuff got the win, allowing just four hits and four runs (one earned) with six Ks in five innings. Jackson Lindsey threw two innings of hitless relief, allowing one run with a walk and Austin LeJeune picked up his first career save, throwing the final two innings while allowing nothing besides a pair of walks while striking out one.
