Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

St. Louis, Mo. – Facing an opponent for the first time in program history, Central Baptist College baseball took on the Eutectics of the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis today at Stars Park on the Harris-Stowe campus. CBC (19-7, 4-1 AMC) took care of business, scoring a combined 21 runs in two wins, beating UHSP (7-14, 1-4 AMC) 8-4 and 14-3 in seven innings.

GAME ONE – CBC 8, UHSP 4

The Eutectics scored first, plating two in the second to take a 2-0 lead. Austin Teal finally put the Mustangs on the board in the fourth with a single to cut the deficit to 2-1 and CBC would take the lead in the fifth with three more runs to make it 4-2. A bases loaded walk to Ryan Dauphinee followed by a balk and a wild pitch are how the runs came across, and that was followed by a Brennan Duhe sac fly in the sixth to make it 5-2. In the seventh, Cade McBride came up with the bases loaded and then cleared them with a double to make it 8-2 before UHSP hit a home run in the seventh to bring the score final. Gram Middleton threw a complete game, scattering seven hits and allowing four runs (two earned) with six Ks for his fourth win of the season.

GAME TWO – CBC 14, UHSP 3 (SEVEN INNINGS)

CBC scored first in game two, plating a run in the first inning on a passed ball. A solo home run from Kevin Gutierrez, his second of the season, made it 2-0 in the second and the Mustangs would blow the game open in the third with five runs in the inning courtesy of RBI singles from Cade McBride and Jacori Hicks and then a bases loaded, bases clearing double from Dauphinee to make it 7-0 after 2.5 innings. UHSP scored a single tally in the third to make it 7-1 before CBC tacked on six in the fourth to make it 13-1 thanks to another single by Hicks, another bases clearing double, this time by Cade McBride, an error and a sac fly off the bat of Dauphinee. An RBI single by Chett McDaniel in the sixth made it 14-1 and UHSP got a pair of runs in the seventh before the run rule ended the game. Jackson Pope earned his second win of the season, starting and throwing six innings, allowing six hits and three runs in six innings with seven Ks. Duhe wrapped up the game, allowing just one hit in his lone inning of work.
