#MustangsWin! Baseball Takes Series From William Woods

Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

Fulton, Mo. – After splitting the doubleheader yesterday, Central Baptist College baseball was at Owl Field this afternoon for the final game of their three game American Midwest Conference series with William Woods. CBC (17-7, 2-1 AMC) got behind 3-0 and clawed their way back, scoring all their runs in the fifth-eighth innings, winning 13-10 over WWU (12-14-1, 1-2 AMC).

Austin Teal had a huge day with five hits, four runs scored and five RBIs. He became the 13th player in program history with five hits in a game and scored four runs for the third time in his career with his 5 RBI game being the second of his career.

William Woods opened the scoring with a steal of home in the first to make it 1-0 and extended their lead to 3-0 in the fourth. CBC got two in the fifth on a single by Ruben Hernandez and an error. Woods added two in the fifth to make it 5-2 after five, but CBC took their first lead in the top of the sixth thanks to an error, a Teal single, another single by Hernandez and a sac fly by Chett McDaniel to make it 6-5. Woods tied the game at six in the bottom half before CBC added four in the seventh on a single by Teal, a two-run single by Hernandez and a wild pitch to lead 10-6. WWU got a run in the bottom half to make it 10-7 after seven before Teal launched his fourth home run of the season, a three-run blast, to make it 13-7 in the eighth. WWU would get one in the eighth and two in the ninth, but that was it. Jackson Lindsey picked up the win in relief, throwing one inning and allowing one run on two hits with a pair of walks.

CBC is back on the road next weekend when they head to St. Louis for an AMC matchup with UHSP in the first series ever between the two schools. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for noon.
