North Little Rock, Ark. – Playing at Burns Park for the first time this season, Central Baptist College baseball hosted the first two games of a four-game series this afternoon with the Patriots of Mission University. CBC (10-6) split the two games, taking game one 14-1 before dropping game two 4-2 to MU (8-9)
GAME ONE – CBC 14, MU 1
The Mustangs put game one away early, scoring six in the bottom of the first to lead 6-0 after one. An error brought home the first two CBC runs and a fielder's choice off the bat of Ruben Hernandez made it 3-0 before another error brought in the fourth run and a two-run double by Jacori Hicks wrapped up the scoring in the first. Mission University got one back in the third before CBC tacked on three more in the fifth thanks to a two-run double by Austin Teal and a fielder's choice off the bat of Luke McBride. CBC tallied their final five runs in the sixth thanks to an RBI single by Ryan Dauphinee, a sac fly by Teal, a two-run double by Jalen Hicks and an RBI double by Cade McBride. Josh Albat was the winner, throwing five innings and allowing just three hits and one run while striking out four. Jackson Pope struck out five and allowed three hits over the final two innings to pick up his second save.
GAME TWO – MU 4, CBC 2
A pitcher's dual broke out in game two as neither team scored until the fourth inning, when Mission broke the scoreless tie and led 1-0 after four. Another run in the fourth and two more in the sixth, all courtesy of home runs, made it 4-0 after five-and-a-half and CBC would respond in the bottom half, plating two. Luke McBride scored the first run on a wild pitch before Jalen Hicks singled home Cade McBride for the second run. Austin LeJeune started and went five innings, allowing just two runs on five hits with five strikeouts. Brennan Duhe threw the final two innings and allowed two runs on two hits with three K's.
